The Rev Robert F Beicke
The Vestry is the governing and decision-making body of an Episcopal church. It consists of elected lay (non-clergy) representatives. But who are these people? Vestry members must be voting members of St. George’s; attend worship regularly; and regularly contribute their time, talent, and treasure to St. George’s.
But that’s just the official stuff. Vestry members are people who love God, the church, and this faith community that is St George’s. They feel called to offer their diverse spiritual gifts and practical skills in service to St. George’s,.
Vestry members have responsibility for the financial condition and physical assets of the Parish. They are also ambassadors for St. George’s with visitors and newcomers. They are a friendly presence eager to help all parishioners get connected or be heard. They advise the priest on strategic planning for the parish’s overall spiritual and material well-being.
